My Current Favs:

Getting Summer-Time Ready with ‘Wooden Ships’

My favorite time of year is almost here – SUMMER! With that being said, it’s that time of year to stock up on my summer/beach essentials. One of my many favorite parts about the summer time is the late summer nights either on the beach or out with friends. It’s still warm outside, but there’s a cool breeze. So, all you need to wear is some jean shorts and a light, summery sweater to keep you feeling content.

This amazing company, Wooden Ships, was kind enough to send me a sweater from their new collection launching in July. And let me just say, this company is actually amazing. Here’s a little bit about their story:

About Wooden Ships

Wooden Ships was founded in 1992 by Colombian-born designer Paola Buendía and her husband, Mark Donovan. It began with the merging of many of Paola’s life-long loves – literature, travel, fashion, and the environment. While adventuring through her endeavors in Indonesia, she made the discovery that “fashion could be more than a passion – it could be part of the work of [her] life.”

One of the many amazing qualities about this brand is how they pay attention to their carbon footprint. From an outsider looking in, I would say reducing their carbon footprint is one of their most important goals/priorities, along with doing right by their customers and employees. Paola and Mark “believe in Lean Production, a no-waste approach, all pieces are made-to-order – no stock. Rather than order stock on things [they] “might” sell, the factory produces one Sales Order at a time. There is no wasted time or raw materials on wrong inventory so [they] can give [their] customers incredible turn around times.” Wooden Ships has never had to “dump” merchandise, as many fashion companies have to do.

Along with decreasing their carbon footprint, Wooden Ships donates to causes that are important to them. They regularly donate to EarthJusticeSea Shepherd InternationalAvaazOrganic Consumers OrganizationInternational Anti-Poaching Foundation, the Environmental Defense FundInternational Rescue CommitteeNaral and WildAid

The Sweaters

Now onto the sweaters. The vision when creating these sweaters was inspired by the visual of wooden trading ships, something authentic and raw. I personally love how light the sweater feels, but you can tell it’s a good quality sweater. You can wear this anywhere and be comfy – to the beach, to a cook out, hanging out with friends, and the list can go on and on!

The sweater I am wearing is the white USA knit – PERFECT for 4th of July! I have paired it with my Eylsiian Swim red, white, and blue bikini to keep the theme of 4th of July going. For pants, I thought it would be cute to pair the look with these white linen pants from Venus.

I highly recommend checking out Wooden Ships, even if it’s just to read about this couple and their amazing story of creating this company. It’s people like Paola and Mark that are truly trying to make the world a better place through fashion, and I find that to be very inspiring!

xo, Maggie
